Page 2 - 29. Don't Trash our Future .... Recyle it! - Part 2
P. 2
Do you know what happens to all the waste we accumulate? Waste with
scrap metal not separated for recycling is often incinerated. Burning waste
releases harmful gases into the air and the soil. By choosing to recycle, we
can do our part to reduce the harmful ashes and gases released into the
atmosphere. We have the power to protect the earth’s resources by
choosing to recycle.
Resource Conservation
By recycling, used materials become repurposed new products for
consumption, reducing the need for using natural resources. Recycling
conserves natural resources, such as wood, water, minerals, and fossil
fuels. When we manufacture new products, we use raw materials from the
earth such as petroleum - to make plastic bags, iron ore - to make steel,
trees - to make paper and bauxite to make aluminum cans. However paper,
glass, steel, aluminium and plastic can be recycled. This decreases resource
depletion, and reduces the destruction of the ecosystem through mining,
drilling and deforestation.
